hey there! Wow, Delhi is great! It is a huge bustling city with all the excitement and happiness you get when walking down the street in NYC, plus cows and carts and every other kind of thing you wouldn't see anywhere else. Ah crud, I'm not going to be able to get any pictures up here at this cafe, not working for some reason. So let me just tell you it is amazing here. Besides the energy and the street scene being incredible, we have seen the government and parilment buildings of India, the India gate ( a huge WWI memorial), the red fort (an amazing piece of mogul architecture from the 1600's that has many buildings on a several acre complex made out of a local red sandstone), incredible old mosques made around the same time from the same red stone that will blow your mind when you see pictures, an even older fort also amazing, I met a man with an elephant and he let me ride her and she was so sweet and beautiful and gentle. I rode her all by myself up there and she had not even a rope or anything, so lucky for me she was a sweet elephant. We ate at a restaurant that was like from some old movie, elegant interior with men in turbans wearing silk and smoking cigars and every other kind of fancy thing, we walked around markets, shopped, hung out with some other people we met and probably more i'm forgetting. That is in the last three days. Oh yeah, we went to an old astronomical observatory from the 16oo's which has the instruments (sundials and similar things) that are stories tall so that the shadows can be seen and precise measurements taken, and I got my hands hennaed again. We toured a Jain temple (where the devotees are so into non-violence that they wear a mask so they don't breathe in any bugs and everywhere they walk they use a little broom of peacock feathers to sweep the ground in front of them as they go along so they don't step on any bugs.) They had a bird hospital there where they rehabilitate any injured birds people drop off. Mostly there were lots of pigeons, but also there were parrots, an owl, a crane, a partridge, and some peacocks. Also I finally saw some monkeys today sitting on top of the government building. Kerala is the only part of India that doesn't have monkeys, as far as i know. Mark told me that because the Indians don't like to kill or harass the monkeys, they can get out of hand as they did a few years back when they ended up taking over a whole wing of the capital and going bananas, emptying file cabinets of top-secret documents and raising every kind of trouble you can imagine. Isn't that funny? A coup of monkeys. They had to call in the national guard and take the building back bit by bit. So, we've been seeing and doing lots of stuff and all of it great! We are getting on a train tomorrow morning at 6:15 to go to Agra and see the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort. The day after that we are going to Jaipur in Rajastan and then on from there into the desert and camels and all that. I'll keep you posted. Oh, gosh, now it's going to let me upload pictures so I'll get in all I can in the next few minutes before this place closes. Unfortunately I can't resize them here, so if you click on them you'll get a huge picture. Oh well. Blog's not in order, but at least its something, huh? I can't imagine what I would have done if I couldn't get some pictures up. I'd be so far behind I'd cry thinking of going through all the pictures we're going to have after this trip.
