Amsterdam Rocks
Hi! Well, I finally got to post that last update. Hope you all are well! We are in Amsterdam, Holland now. Bussed it from Brighton through London, Dover, then onto the ferry across the English channel. We got our passports stamped to enter the EU from Britain and drove through france and belgium last night. This morning we entered the Netherlands and it is just like in pictures and stories: thatched wood windmills and miles of green pastures with fat happy looking milk cows that look more like bluebell than the cows we have in the states. Everything was covered in dew and it was so pastoral and peaceful. The architecture in the cities is marvelous, stimulating and feels like a fairy tale. Buildings and traffic are miracles of thoughtful, creative engineering. There are a lot of game companies here. The canals and houseboats are romantic. This morning we saw a guy who had this huge machine powered by a big engine beside it. The whole thing was on a trailer. It was a whole band with drums, woodwinds, organ, and the whole thing was playing itself (loud as if there were 6 musicians at performance volume) by reading these cards that were cardboard with holes punched in cards. Each song was a long accordian folding cardboard band that unfolded and refolded perfectly on its own, and there were dozens of songs. All this was concealed by these painted metal dutch dancers. It was just about the coolest thing I have ever seen. We went to the Anne Frank house today and toured the whole house, which is restored to how it was then, minus the furniture and has a self led tour that leads you through each room with movies and museum items in each room. We have a cool hotel room for tonight. After that, we'll see. Love you, Asenath Oh, i haven't had any luck getting pictures uploaded yet, but I decided to just post without them. ;)
